Interserve

Background
A district heating system serving multiple hospital buildings at one site owned under a PFI contract structure.
Problem
The existing energy system was operating at a loss under terms of the contract with inadequate understanding of the energy profile and a lack of metering and monitoring. The site had undergone multiple asset additions and changes in operation since the original system design and the current CHP and associated third party operating contract was due for renewal and at end of contract.
Process
An 18 month project to first address existing losses and then determine a long-term strategy to deliver profitability over the next 25 years.
Result
Alpheon delivered an immediate 30% reduction in operating losses after 3 months. After a 6 months of energy flow monitoring and a further period of analysis a long-term operating and replacement strategy was delivered which in turn delivered a profitable energy system.
