Questions about Alpheon

General questions

  1. What is sustainable energy?

Sustainable energy, also referred to as 'renewable' or 'green' energy, uses unlimited natural resources such as the wind or the sun, to create energy. This energy is used for electricity production or heating and cooling. With zero emissions and high energy productivity over the total life cycle, it can be used to reduce or eliminate the environmental footprint of the operation of a building or a warehouse.

  2. Can I really use sustainable energy to power my business?

Alpheon is specialized in finding the optimal solution for your business, including the right choice of technology depending on the location, weather conditions, available subsidies and budget.

  3. What is energy efficency?

Energy efficiency is set of measures and technologies that focus on reducing energy demand and consumption in a particular business process or building type. They can be “passive” in the form of high insulation windows or an external building thermal shell or “active” in the form of variable speed drives and advanced technology building management systems. Efficiency measures can be retro-fitted to existing premises and business processes or incorporated into new buildings at design stage. In all cases, Alpheon will invest in the technologies to lower the energy consumption profile. At present, Alpheon identify 89 separate measures falling into a variety of categories focussed on heating, cooling and electricity.

  4. What are the main energy efficiency technologies?

Alpheon identify and invest in 10 end use categories comprised of 89 individual measures. The 10 end use categories use technologies designed to increase energy efficiency and reduce consumption in the following energy consuming areas: Office & IT equipment; Other/general Uses; Process equipment; Refrigeration; Space cooling; Space heating; Thermal shell; Ventilation; Water heating

  5. Are sustainable energies a good investment?

The cost-benefit ratio has strongly improved over time and the technologies have a relatively long life time. In most countries renewable energies are already competitive due to high grid prices, increasing government incentives and a serious concern for global warming. With Alpheon it is possible to avoid the initial investment and to have predictable monthly costs, which will protect your business from the high inflation of the volatile energy market.

  6. What are the environmental benefits of sustainable energy?

The conventional ways of producing energy, through the combustion of coal, natural gas, oil and other fossil fuels makes up the world's largest source of air pollution, to which buildings are a significant contributor. Through the use of sustainable energy production, in the form of wind, solar or geothermal, there are no emissions into the atmosphere.

  7. Why decentralised sustainable energy?

Generating the energy on your own property is the highest possible contribution to the environmental cause. You will not consume a portion of the scarcely available centralized green energy and proactively increase the total generation. Decentralized sustainable energy means you save grid capacity and prevent grid losses, as the energy is produced in the same place it is used. To optimize these benefits, Alpheon chose the most effective technology for each of your sites.

  8. What are the advantages and disadvantages to using sustainable energy?

The advantages are the cost-benefit ratio, the long life time of the products, the environmental benefits and it allows for a decentralized sustainable energy system.
The disadvantages are the initial (investment) cost, the large choice of suppliers, the implementation and management of the project as well as maintaining of the installations. All of this however is taken care of by Alpheon.

  9. What are the advantages and disadvantages of solar?

The advantages include, that it is a proven technology that allows for a predictable annual output. The disadvantages are the high investment, the need to select the right technology and the need to control and maintain the installation. This is all taken care of by Alpheon.

  10. What are the advantages and disadvantages of small and medium wind?

The advantages include the high output/square meter, creates more visibility and there are fewer tax incentives, as urban wind is an emerging solution. The disadvantages are the high investment, the need to select right technology and frequent maintenance. This is all taken care of by Alpheon.

  11. What are the advantages and disadvantages of geothermal heating/cooling?

The advantages include that the technology is well developed and that the costs are attractive. A disadvantage is that it is not always feasible, as some buildings or grounds might not be suitable.
